The Iowa State Parks system is getting ready to celebrate 100 years in 2020, and Springbrook State Park invites to the public to help improve one of its amenities this Saturday.
As part of Iowa State Parks’ annual Volunteer Day, park goers and other helping hands are welcome to help construct, repair, and refinish picnic tables from 1-4 p.m. at Springbrook. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Training Specialist Anne Riordan says 2019 is being recognized as the Year of the Volunteer, “This is not my park, this is your park, this park belongs to everybody. (It) belongs to you to come and enjoy, it belongs to you to come and pitch in and help get things ready. The public is a big part of what makes the park great and it’s a good buy-in for them too. It helps with that whole ownership piece, so this is everybody’s park.”
Attendees are advised to bring gloves and a water bottle, and are asked to meet at the park office. For more information contact Riordan at 641-295-6028.
