A Jefferson man faces a felony charge for an OWI.
According to court documents, 64-year-old Joel Robert Simpson is charged with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for an OWI, a simple misdemeanors for driving with a suspended driver’s license, failure to carry a registration card and failure to provide proof of insurance. The charges stem from an alleged incident on Friday, September 20th.
A Jefferson Police Officer saw Simpson’s vehicle and knew he had a suspended license. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North Oak and West Clark streets at 7:19pm. During the stop, the officer noticed an alcohol odor coming from Simpson’s vehicle. The officer also noticed Simpson had bloodshot and watery eyes, along with slurred speech. Simpson refused to take a breathalyzer and field sobriety tests.
Simpson was then arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
