The Dallas County Auditor’s Office parking lot recently underwent a complete makeover, and the project has officially wrapped up.
Prior to the renovation, the lot located at 210 North 10th Street in Adel was filled with potholes and frequently held standing water. The County contracted architecture firm AECOM for the project, with the plans including a special type of pavement that would allow water to drain through it. As construction began, they also discovered that the foundation of the building was faulty in one area and would have to be fixed, so that aspect was also added to the scope of work. The work took longer than expected, largely because of weather delays during the summer.
However, it was worth the wait, because once it was finished the new parking lot proved it functioned exactly as it was supposed to. Mere days after AECOM finished the work, there was a large rain event in Adel that caused streets to flood in many areas. When the rain stopped, the lot was clear of all water almost immediately. It was tested several times after that by different levels of storms, and on each occasion came through with flying colors. The Board of Supervisors put a bow on the project at their recent meeting, approving the final pay application of $8,667.45 for release of retainage. The total project cost came in at $173,349.02, right around the initial engineer’s estimate.
The Supervisors commented at the meeting that they were very pleased with the results, and invited AECOM to work with the County on future projects.
