Gilbert and Carroll were high school volleyball winners over Greene County on Thursday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams fell to 9-10 on the season.

The match with Gilbert was a best three of five in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and the Rams dropped to 1-2 in league play. Scores were 17-25, 12-25, 11-25. Coach Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio her team gave Gilbert a run for their money in set one, but couldn’t maintain that energy in sets two and three.

The scores with Carroll were 18-25, 22-25. The coach was encouraged by the showing vs. Carroll and she hopes the team can continue to play with the energy they displayed vs. the Tigers. The Rams were up by a 12-7 score in the second set before falling behind 16-17. Greene County rallied to take a 20-17 lead, only to have Carroll (9-7) go on a 6-0 run and eventually win the set and match.

Greene County senior Aubrey Heupel was honored prior to the last match for recently passing 1,000 career setting assists.
