The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The meeting started with a public hearing and approval to utilize $63,740 from the flexibility fund to purchase new playground equipment for the elementary school. Iowa school districts can transfer additional funds from certain accounts into the flexibility fund. Greene County had $63,740 left over from the professional development account, which was transferred to the flexibility fund. The Board then approved using those funds to purchase new playground equipment from Bowland Recreation and will install rubber mulch and remove pea-gravel that currently exists.
The Board then heard a student construction update. Instructor Kirk Davis said the 16 student class has the foundation hole dug in their lot at Briarwood Estates. The 1,400 square-foot home will include three-bedrooms.
Next, the Board approved a field trip request for eight FFA members to attend the National FFA Convention from October 30th-November 2nd. They also approved several fundraiser requests, the 2018-19 School Board Review Committee request for special education deficit and limited English proficiency deficit of $488,238 and $12,162 respectively. The Board then set October 16th for the public hearing to transfer the school property in Grand Junction to the City of Grand Junction, appointed Dr. Steve Karber as the delegate for the Iowa Association of School Boards, and purchasing for heat pumps for the elementary school for $37,718 from Drees Company.
The Board also reviewed the certified annual report, as well as transportation, and special education supplemental reports for 2018-19 and they tabled the 2018-19 treasurer’s report to a future meeting.
