When Greene County hosts Gilbert in non-district high school football Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson, there will be no lack of players on offense with impressive credentials.
Gilbert, a Class 3A program, is 2-1 on the season. The Tigers are led on offense by juniors at the skill positions. Receiver Tucker Hanson has caught 14 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. As a ball carrier, Hanson has three more TDs and has averaged 14.4 yards on 13 carries. Running back Ethan Vesey has 237 rushing yards and three TDs. Vesey is averaging nearly six yards per carry. Quarterback Tanner Henningsen has completed 51% of his passes for 375 yards and two touchdowns.
The Rams have Iowa State University offensive line recruit Tyler Miller. The 6′ 9″, 290 lbs. senior left tackle has been dominant, helping to open holes for running back Colby Kafer, who has 611 rushing yards, 7 TDs on the ground, and an average of nearly 14 yards per carry. Quarterback Brent Riley has completed 63% of his pass attempts for 506 yards and eight touchdowns. Four of the TD passes have gone to Carter Morton, who is averaging more than 25 yards per reception. Morton has also returned three punts for TDs in the first three games. Greene County is 3-0 and ranked fifth in Class 2A.
