The Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.
The meeting began with the Board approving the certified annual report, special education request for allowable growth and supplemental aid, and transportation report for fiscal year 2019. Next, the Board approved moving forward with FRK Architects + Engineers to develop designs for their weight room project. Superintendent Dennis McClain also explained the different ways the District could fund the project besides going to a bond referendum vote. McClain mentioned the possibility of using Secure an Advanced Vision for Education, or SAVE, funds; as well as entering into a 28E agreement with the Adair-Casey District.
The Board then approved appointing Board President Wes Policky to serve as legislative delegate for the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention, and they appointed Board member Sarah Langgaard to serve on the Guthrie County Conference Board. Finally, the Board discussed applying to the Iowa Department of Education for them to allow having a physical education waiver for students who wish to take another class that otherwise would be unavailable, and to designate the high school principal to waive physical education.
