A Guthrie Center man was given a deferred judgment this week for a class D felony charge.
Court documents show that 43-year-old Robert Rudolph Kirkham pled guilty to possessing a firearm or offensive weapon by a domestic abuse offender. The charge was filed when a Guthrie County deputy visited the home of Kirkham and his wife after he had received a written statement from a concerned party supposing a domestic abuse situation. The statement alleged that Kirkham had threatened to kill himself with a shotgun at his residence on May 4th. Kirkham and his wife both told the deputy that nothing physical happened between them, and when pressed about whether he threatened to harm himself and if there was a shotgun in the house, Kirkham admitted so and retrieved it from the garage. Kirkham told law enforcement that he had two prior domestic abuse convictions. Law enforcement confirmed those incidents occurred in 1998 and 2000 in Guthrie County. When asked, Kirkham admitted to additionally having a rifle and ammunition.
The court placed Kirkham on two years probation. He must also pay a $300 supervision fee, abstain from unauthorized use of controlled substances, pay full restitution, legal fees, and court costs.
