In a rare occasion, one Jefferson resident sacrificed his body for a good cause.

Friday afternoon Jefferson Herald Editor Andy McGinn took the full brunt of a taser, administered by Jefferson Police Captain Heath Enns. The demonstration took place outside of the law enforcement center. McGinn was the “winner” having raised the most money for the Greene County Peace Officers Association.

Community members donated money to ten willing volunteers and whoever raised the most would be tased, and McGinn raised $337. He told Raccoon Valley Radio what it was like to be tased.

“It’s an experience that I would not recommend, first and foremost. I can’t really describe the sensation, basically everything locks up (and) no you just can not move. They were initially just going to be 2 ½ seconds, and they said, ‘Do you want the full five, that’s what we take.’ And I said, ‘Of course I want the full five (seconds).’ If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it.”

The total amount raised was $762, which will go back to the Peace Officers Association for community enrichment programs like Shop With a Cop.
