With the recent announcement from the Trump Administration about waivers for 31 oil refineries freeing them from blending biodiesels like ethanol, several officials in Iowa disagree with that decision.

Chief among them is Governor Kim Reynolds. She says the waivers take away production in Iowa.

“It’s destroying demand for the federally regulated 15 billion gallons through the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). We’ve been pretty clear with the (Trump) Administration that the impact of the waivers are killing the industry. That’s not what the president promised farmers, and ethanol producers, and biodiesel producers when he was campaigning.”

She adds that the waivers hurt production plants and some are even closing and cutting back production. Reynolds stresses the fact the ethanol and biodiesel production in Iowa is vital to economic development and it burns cleaner. She points out that Iowa was lucky when President Donald Trump announced earlier in the year to allow for year-round E-15. However, Reynolds is asking the Trump Administration to reverse their decision.
