The Perry City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

Due to Monday being Labor Day, the meeting was pushed back a day. The meeting began with three public hearings. The first was on establishing Central Heavy Industrial as a new zoning district, and after the hearing the Council approved the first reading of a related ordinance. The other two involved an amendment to the Urban Renewal Plan, and an agreement with Perry Economic Development for tax increment payments regarding the speculative building at the industrial park. Later in the meeting, the Council approved resolutions for both items.

In old business, they accepted an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a general aviation vertical infrastructure grant for the new fuel facility at the Perry Municipal Airport. Also related to the airport, they approved a pay request from Jensen Builders for the demolition of the old hangar. In new business, the Council approved a resolution accepting the final plan for the new waste water treatment plant, as well as an agreement with Perry Lutheran Homes for Wednesday fellowship meal cook services, a residential construction project for the building trades class at Perry High School, and a community branding agreement with Brand Driven Digital.

Finally, the Council approved the second and third readings for ordinances regarding rezoning an area from Heavy Industrial to Residential Duplex, and the vacation of portions of 2nd, Bateman, and Rawson Streets. They also held the first reading for rezoning an area from Heavy Industrial to Central Heavy Industrial.
