Greene County Extension has a couple of programs to get you in thinking about healthier eating and fall time activities.

Healthy and Homemade is a three-week program with a focus on saving time, money and skills in the kitchen. It will take place the next three Tuesday evenings, September 10th, 17th and 24th from 5:30-6:30pm. September 10th will be on preparing meals in the slow cooker, September 17th will be going on strategies to cook for one or two people and September 24th is cooking something now and saving it for later. The program costs $30. Deadline to register is September 6th.

Another program looks at pickle-making and pickle products. It will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 8am-1pm. Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about the program.

“Some of us may have lost the art of canning and how to pickle. I know my grandmother did it, my mother did it, and I didn’t acquire that talent. It’s something that I think a lot of people will enjoy. We did a small workshop last fall and we had families that came, not just women, or not just young or old, we had a very diverse crowd.”

The cost of the program is $35 and the deadline to signup is September 7th.

Both programs will be led by ISU Extension Food and Nutrition Specialist Ann Parker. To sign up, click the respective links below.
