The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The meeting started with the latest update on the new law enforcement center project. Jerry Purdy with the Farnsworth Group presented the 19th pay application in the amount of $310,204.38 to five contractors, as well as the furniture contract with Storey Kenworthy for $201,429.73. The Board approved both items. Purdy also discussed the progress of construction, though he pointed out there’s a new project manager from the Samuels Group in charge of the work, so they won’t know a more firm timetable until next week.
Following that, the Supervisors approved a certificate of substantial completion for the courthouse renovation project. Purdy said there are still items the contractor Trinity Construction needs to take care of, but this will allow the County to assess a change order for liquidated damages. The project was over its scheduled completion date by 31 working days. At 9:30 a.m., there was a public hearing for the second reading of changes to chapter 45 of the County’s zoning ordinance, specifically regarding setbacks for wind turbines and definition of primary dwelling. No one objected, so following the hearing the Board approved the second reading for the amendment and waived the third reading.
Next the Supervisors approved a resolution for the new emergency declaration policy drafted by Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely, as well as a proclamation for National Preparedness Month. That was followed by approval of a consultant contract with Holm Bridge Inspections, LLC through the Secondary Roads Department. County Engineer Al Miller also gave an update on the current status of roads and projects. The Board also approved a military tax credit reimbursement. Finally, the Supervisors held workshops with the Treasurer’s Office and Veteran’s Affairs Department regarding requested payroll change notices, which will be considered at next week’s meeting.
