The second annual Amazing Race for Charity is happening this Saturday in Jefferson.
Hosted by Jefferson Matters: Main Street and Greene County Chamber & Tourism, this year’s race is raising funds for the construction of the Greene County Animal Facility. Construction cost is about $1.2 million and it will be located in the Greene County Development Corporation west business park, south of American Athletic Incorporated. Close to $500,0000 has been raised.
Teams of two will face several physical and mental challenges throughout Jefferson, with awards to be given to the top teams. Co-organizer Angie Gingery says registration is open and check-ins will be at 9am on the southside of the Greene County Courthouse.
“Get there early and get registered. Last year we had music, and fun, and everybody was hanging out. People wore costumes and really went all out with their teams and people had fun team names.”
Cost per team is $50, which also includes a barbecue meal provided by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee. The Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be serving a free-will donation breakfast from 8-10am. The race begins at 10am and about 12:30pm will be the after-party, featuring the 2018 Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, the Bushmen. To sign up, go to amazingraceforcharitygc.com.
