Many followers of Greene County High School football thought the 2019 Rams would be ranked in the top 10 among Class 2A programs when the season began. That wasn’t the case, but one week into the season it is. The Des Moines Register has the Rams tenth in its latest rankings after the season opening 54-0 “Cowbell” victory over Perry last Friday night at Linduska Field.

The Rams return about two-thirds of the starters from the team ranked tenth to end the 2018 campaign. That team was 8-2 overall, 8-1 during the regular season, tying for the District 9 title, and a playoff qualifier.

Greene County is likely to find the competition raised up this Friday for the first road game of the season. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams go east to Nevada to face the Cubs, who are also 1-0. Nevada opened the season with a 26-15 road win in Alleman vs. North Polk. Friday’s coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
