The Back-to-School Supply Drive for Greene County saw a huge increase for kids in need.

New Opportunities Greene County Coordinator Teresa Lansman tells Raccoon Valley Radio there were 240 children and 101 families that registered this year in need of school supplies. She adds this was an increase from last year’s 180 children.

There were backpack donations from the Salvation Army, along with several other businesses that contributed, including: Jefferson Telecom, Midland Power Cooperative, American Athletic Incorporated, Aereon, the local Girl Scouts, several local churches and individuals. They all helped raise over $800 and 2,700 school items. While Lansman says the number of registered individuals was up and the amount of donations was a little down, she notes the little things that came together made the program another success.
