The AC/GC Chargers open their season tonight when they make the trip to Manning.
Last year the Chargers fell 35-0 to start the year. Keep in mind, this was not only the first game under new head coach Cody Mathewson, but his offensive scheme is based out of the wishbone formation which has a lot of moving pieces. Mathewson told Raccoon Valley Radio that his team is much more comfortable with the system then this point last year, “I think a year ago, we were pretty much just trying to get the offense in, get the plays in, get our schemes in. This year, the kids understand the plays. They understand what they need to do. They understand their assignments. Obviously we’re going to have some issues with some of our younger guys and getting them to understand the expectations and how to do it. Overall, the players are doing a great job, especially the older leadership.”
The Chargers finished last year with a 3-6 record, two more wins than the previous two seasons combined. You can listen to Charger football on RaccoonValleyRadio.com on KKRF-2. Pregame coverage starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
