An inmate at the Guthrie County Jail has been charged with a felony offense after allegedly taking her cell phone with her into jail.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year-old Tracy Renee Lehmann of Des Moines was arrested by the Stuart Police Department for violation of a no contact order on Tuesday and was transported to the jail. Due to a high number of calls for service, Lehmann was placed in an interview room and was allowed to use her cell phone and charger. At about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning the suspect was taken to a jail cell by a deputy. A few minutes later that deputy observed a wall plug in the interview room for a cell phone. The deputy was advised Lehmann had a cell phone, and so he went back to the cell and spoke with her. When asked if she still had the phone Lehmann said it was in the interview room. The deputy then searched the room and did not locate the phone. When the deputy returned to the cell Lehmann stated she found her phone in her bra, which was attached to a charging cable and charging pack. Jail camera footage also showed Lehmann using her phone in the cell. Lehmann was additionally charged with possession of electronic contraband, a class D felony.
