The 2019 Greene County High School volleyball season begins today. Coach Chris Heisterkamp begins her second season heading the program with two Class 1A opponents in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The Rams will be hoping to improve on last year’s 7-22 record. Greene County begins play at 5 p.m. vs. Collins-Maxwell, followed by C-M and Glidden-Ralston. The last match of the night has the Rams and G-R squaring off.
Senior setter Aubrey Heupel was on the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference All-Conference honorable mention list last year. She talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about what the team is working on. “This year we’re working really hard individually with each hitter so I get to know exactly where they want the ball. We’re pushing more quick sets so the defense doesn’t have as much time to get set.”
Harleigh Weir is a senior hitter who comments about where she feels individual and team improvement will come from. “Teamwise, we’re working on making the other team scramble. Get the ball over quicker. Individually, I’m working on hitting, passing, and digging up the ball better.”
Starting time today is 5 p.m. in the middle school gym in Jefferson.
