Now that the Iowa State Fair is over, there are a few more results to pass along involving Greene County residents.

Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms confirms to Raccoon Valley Radio that 17 4-H static exhibits earned blue ribbons. Of those, Aden Bardole’s Family and Consumer Science project was recognized with the International Harvester Collector’s Club Award. Arthur Bardole received an excellence award for one of his communication exhibits. As for the 4-H’ers that competed in livestock, there were six purple ribbons, which went to Elise Badger with three, Cody Stephensen, Tieryn Tucker and Kyle Hughes. 

Other results in the open classes included more accolades for Marianne Carlson of Jefferson. She won first place and earned $100 for the Best Mardi Gras King Cake contest, along with being named reserve sweepstakes for the King Arthur Yeast Rolls contest, among several other first, second and third place finishes. LeAnn Monaghan of Jefferson won first place in the quilting category for her bag/tote/purse item. Check out the full list below of all of the Greene County results from the state fair.

    • 2nd place in cinnamon rolls (with nuts)
    • 1st place in whole wheat pan rolls
    • 2nd place in Sweet rolls other than named
  • 2nd place in Peach Blend Two Crust Pie contest
  • 3rd place Nostalgic Comfort Foods contest ($125 in cash and gift cards)
    • 1st place for main dish
  • Midwest Living Cookies contest
    • 1st place in molded or pressed sugar cookies
    • 1st place in ethnic biscotti cookies
  • 2nd place overall in the Machine Shed Pies contest
    • 1st place in chocolate cream pies
    • 3rd place in fruit pies (blueberry)
    • 1st place in rhubarb-strawberry
