Greene County and North Polk will hold a controlled football scrimmage tonight in Alleman at 7 o’clock. It’s free to attend and fans of the Rams and Comets will get to see their teams in action against someone other than their teammates. First year head coach Caden Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio there are still a few position battles taking place, so the scrimmage could help the coaching staff decide which way to go.
The Rams return quite a bit of talent from the 2018 that was 8-2 overall and a Class 2A playoff qualifier. One of the returnees is senior two-way lineman Tyler Miller. He’s a 6′ 9″, 290 lbs. Iowa State University recruit who earned first team All-State honors by multiple sources following his junior season. He was asked by Raccoon Valley Radio how he feels he’s improved from last season to this. “IQ for the game. I think after having Coach Fett back I’m better at calling out ID’s, blitzes, other coverages, to help out the O-line. I know the game a lot more now.”
The regular season opens for the Rams one week from tonight on Aug. 30 in Jefferson at Linduska Field with the Perry Blue Jays in the Annual Battle for the Cowbell. All Greene County varsity football games start at 7 p.m. this season with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
