A local organization that has spent the last few years supporting the Stuart Public Library provide programs for residents and promote literacy is reaching out to the community with a fall membership drive.

People Active for Library Service, or PALS currently has about 75 members. They hope to expand that number to 100 with a mail-in drive. The PALS are active volunteers for the library, helping with events like the summer reading program, sponsoring speaker events, helping purchase new library materials with their annual used book sale, assisting the Stuart Library Foundation’s annual fundraiser, and much more.

PALS member Carol Brewer says residents can either be a “quiet contributor” or an active volunteer in the group, “Volunteering is really up to the individual, how much time they want to put in. Whether it’s just very little time, occasionally, or if they want to be more involved as far as committees or our monthly meetings, helping in providing leadership for the organization. And also just being able to have pride in being able to help our library grow.”

Those interested in meeting new people, helping the Stuart community, and having fun can join the PALS by picking up a membership form at the library, or contacting the library at 515-523-2152.
