The 2019-20 school year for the Perry Community School District gets started tomorrow, as classes begin for 1st-12th graders.
Kindergarten will start Monday, August 26th, while preschool begins Thursday the 29th. Superintendent Clark Wicks points out some notable dates for the year: winter break will be from December 21st through January 1st; spring break will be the week of March 16th; and the tentative last day of school will be May 28th. Wicks also notes the District has been working hard the last two weeks to prepare for the new school year, and says there’s a lot of excitement and anticipation among the new and returning staff. “We have 21 new staff members, which is a good number for us. And (there’s) a lot of energy, a lot of excitement as we talk to these new folks that are going to be Bluejays and Jayettes! So with that, we are getting prepared (and) we’re excited about the start. And at this point our enrollment is looking very solid. High, high numbers for preschool, which is great to see.”
Wicks also reminds students and parents that much of the parking lot at the high school will be closed the whole year for construction on the wrestling/multipurpose room facility. As a result, parking will be in the gravel lot south of Dewey Field. There will also be no parking on McKinley Street during school hours, by order of the Perry Police Department. Officers will be on hand the first few days of classes to help direct traffic at the high school.
