This weekend is the kick-off for two vehicle convoys coming through Jefferson on the Lincoln Highway.
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the World War I military convoy that traveled on the Lincoln Highway from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, California, by doing a re-enactment of that historical journey. The convoy left D.C. on August 11th and will be in Jefferson around 3pm Saturday. Over 60 WWI military style vehicles will be parked around the downtown square for about an hour before heading to Denison for its overnight stop. The route ends in San Francisco on September 14th.
As part of the celebration, the Greene County Historical Museum will be open from 1-4pm on Saturday for a “museum party.” Refreshments will be available and attendees can view the different displays.
Then on September 7th will be the second convoy of classic and contemporary cars, also traveling on the Lincoln Highway and coming through Jefferson. The vehicles will be leaving D.C. on August 30th and will be coming through on September 7th, with an overnight stop in Council Bluffs.
Both events are co-sponsored by the Lincoln Highway Association.
