Guthrie County 4-H members’ hard work will be put on display at the county fair next week, and community members are encouraged to take part in several fundraising events that help sustain the local 4-H program.

The Guthrie County Silent Auction Committee is hosting a silent auction in the 4-H static building during the fair, which is open to the public. The proceeds will go directly to enrollment fees for 4-H’ers. The state requires a $40 annual fee for members, and last year’s auction allowed Guthrie County Extension to offer 4-H at no cost.

The Guthrie County 4-H Foundation is hosting their annual pie auction during the lunch break of the beef show on Sunday, September 1st. Every 4-H club is asked to donate two fruit pies that are auctioned off to raise money for the Foundation, which offers scholarships to senior 4-H’ers and those enrolled in college. They also help with projects such as the expansion of the 4-H Food Stand or club citizenship projects.

The premium auction will then be held on Monday, September 2nd at 10 a.m. in the show ring. Youth that participated in static exhibits, fashion or communications day, share-the-fun, or showed livestock are eligible to participate and receive a premium. Fair attendees are also reminded that the 4-H Food Stand is the sole fundraiser for the 4-H program, and all proceeds go towards offering workshops, awards for Awards Day, and day-to-day functions. The Guthrie County Fair takes place Thursday, August 29th through Monday, September 2nd.
