There are over 30 clubs and programs in the Dallas County 4-H program, and ISU Extension and Outreach is seeking adults to help operate those activities.
Dallas County Extension Director Jeff Jackson invites anyone interested in helping out with 4-H over this year to an open house next Tuesday evening. “We always need volunteers, volunteers is what runs 4-H. I mean it’s student-led, but we need those volunteers to be there as those mentors (and) leaders. It’s not a lot of effort for them, but it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect. And so August 27th from 7-8:30 (p.m.) at our office is going to be a great time to meet (and) learn what 4-H is about. If you’re already a leader, come on out anyway, you can learn some of the new kits (and) some of the new things happening. If you haven’t been a leader before and want to be, come on out and we can talk to you about what that looks like.”
Jackson adds, leaders and volunteers must be at least 18-years-old, and they must clear a background check prior to being accepted. He also reminds kids and their families that the official start of the 4-H year is September 1st. He encourages participants to sign up for the program sooner rather than later, so they can take part in as many activities as possible over the next 12 months.
