An inaugural fishing tournament is being hosted in Dexter by a recently formed community group.

The Stuart Area Young Professionals is hosting the “Keepin’ It Reel” family friendly fishing tournament Saturday August 24th from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Beaver Lake in Dexter. The young professionals group is geared towards those aged 21-40 in the Stuart area, and they began meeting monthly and having social events last April. Event organizer Sarah Gomez says this is the biggest event they’ve organized so far, “We were looking for family fun things to do and a younger group of us got together and thought we would start this group. And it has grown to not only just Stuart area residents but the surrounding communities’ young professionals have joined it as well. So just looking for some fun things to do to get out and about and connect with other people.”

Check-in for the tournament begins at 7 a.m., and entry fee is $20 per adult, and $5 per child ages 2-16. There will be prizes for biggest fish and total weight of 10 panfish. For more information visit here.
