Dallas County is getting a clearer picture on how a recently purchased facility will be used.

The Board of Supervisors recently held a workshop on the potential uses for the 6,000 square foot building located at 818 Court Street in Adel, which the County purchased from its former occupants Adel Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram. The Supervisors accepted the recommendation of County Operations Director Rob Tietz to move the Facilities Department into the north side of the building. That section is made up of garage spaces and offices, which Tietz felt would be ideal for the equipment and personnel responsible for the upkeep of County facilities.

He added, the department won’t need many renovations to adapt the building, except for removing at least two of the car lifts in the garage bays. The department is currently located in the basement of the County Administration Office at 902 Court Street. The Supervisors now must decide how to use the south side of the building, which was the former showroom of the car dealership. There was some discussion about putting archives in that space, though Supervisor Chair Mark Hanson proposed using it to promote Dallas County in some way. The Board made no decisions on that aspect, but will continue discussions in the coming weeks.
