Top Three AC/GC Fall Sports Moments: #3 Chargers Avoid Upset
With the start of the 2019 fall sports season around the corner, we’re taking a look at our favorite AC/GC moments from last fall.
Number three on our list came from the volleyball court. The Charger volleyball team took their home court to face Earlham on fire. AC/GC entered the evening 9-3 on the year and riding a five match winning streak, only dropping three sets during that span. Earlham came into the contest trying to cool off the Chargers coming in on a three match winning streak themselves.
The evening started just as AC/GC drew up, taking the first two sets 25-22 and 26-24. Earlham found some fight as they stood their ground winning set three 25-14. AC/GC showed some more fight in the fourth, but ultimately fell 25-20. With their backs against the wall, the Chargers were just 15 points away from blowing a two-set advantage. The experienced AC/GC squad stood their ground in the winner-take-all fifth set 15-13.
The Chargers were led by freshman Chloe Largent who had 18 kills and seven acees to get AC/GC to double-digit wins. AC/GC went on to finish the year with a 21-10 record, one win away from the regional championship match. Last season was the second consecutive season the Chargers surpassed 20 wins.
They begin their 2019 campaign at the WCAC Varsity Jam at Woodward-Granger on August 22nd. Check back in tomorrow to see what made #2 on our 2018 AC/GC fall sports countdown.
