Raccoon Valley Radio was sent briefs late Monday from the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control meeting from earlier in the day. Among the items noted was the IHSAA’S Classification Committee to meet sometime this Fall with statewide member school representation and input from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Twenty-six schools have submitted a form resolution calling for the IHSAA and IGSHAU to convene a committee to seriously evaluate the competitive needs of students and schools to experience success and the inequities inherent in a system based solely on enrollment size. These schools would like to have family and community capacity for support considered, and would like such committee to make a recommendation to a joint board of both associations to resolve this issue in the 2019-20 school year.
Many of the 26 are larger districts that have had difficulty not only winning, but being competitive in many sports for a long period of time.
