Even though the Greene County Peace Officers Association will not host a National Night Out event this year, they are going to have one fundraiser activity.
A taser demonstration will go on as planned at a home varsity football game for Greene County High School. There are ten individuals who have agreed to voluntarily be tased. The volunteers include: Emily Gannon, Zach Beekman, Scott Johnson, Brian Phillips, Tyler Westhoff, Carl Behne, Chris Deal, Simone Lang, Jamie Daubendiek and Andy McGinn.
Jefferson Police Captain Heath Enns is part of the Greene County Peace Officers Association and says all ten volunteers have agreed to sign a waiver from Axon, the tasering company. For the demonstration, Enns says they will select one volunteer based off who has the most donations to be tased in a safe and controlled environment. As of last Friday, McGinn has the most money raised with $132 and in second place was Daubendiek with $62.
A donation box will be at Jefferson Hy-Vee for the duration of the fundraiser until Thursday, September 12th at noon. Donations can also be made to the law enforcement center in Jefferson. Checks can be made out to the Greene County Peace Officers Association. The demonstration will be done during halftime of the football game on Friday, September 13th. Proceeds will benefit the Association’s community service projects.
