Hot August Night in Jefferson is happening this Thursday.
It will be from 4:30-7pm on the downtown square in Jefferson. Co-organizer Chuck Wenthold says they have 176 pre-registered entries, but anyone can register the day of the event. Awards will also be given out for best car, tractor, truck and motorcycle, along with the Spirit Award and a $200 cash prize to the car club with the most entries. Wenthold points out there are new awards including best paint, interior and engine. He explains how it has grown over the years.
“The first year they did it, it was on the west side of the (Greene County) Courthouse, (with) one street blocked off. (There were) Maybe 30 cars and now we’re over 300. So yeah, never imagined on a Thursday night we could have that many people show up here in Jefferson.”
There will be a variety of food options. The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will be grilling and serving a hotdog, beefburger or ribeye steak sandwich meal, Fareway will have free watermelon, Hy-Vee is donating free water and the Jefferson Does will be selling homemade pies.
The streets around the square will be blocked off to traffic starting at 1pm on Thursday. Plus Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from 4-6pm.
