In case you haven’t seen it yet, the Dallas County “Freedom Rock” in Minburn has been completed, but there’s still more work to be done before the site is finished.
The boulder was painted by Greenfield artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen a few weeks ago, commissioned by the Minburn American Legion, Post #99. In order to help pay for Sorensen’s artist fees, as well as fund the next phase of the project, the Legion is hosting a fundraiser this coming Wednesday with some help from their comrades in Waukee. The Waukee American Legion Post, #737 has taken up the mantle to provide a pulled pork sandwich fundraiser on August 7th during the Waukee farmers market. The meal will be served from 4-7 p.m. at the “downtown triangle,” and the cost is a free-will donation. All proceeds will go towards the $18,000 “Freedom Rock” project.
Phase two includes landscaping and beautification of the site, which is located just to the south of the Nineteen14 Depot in Minburn.
