The Panora Public Library is just about finished with its journey through a “Universe of Stories” this summer as they provided weekly programs, activities, and prizes for kids who participated.

Library Director Kim Finnegan says this year’s reading program was a success with 150 kids who took part. For every five books a child read they received a prize, and Finnegan mentions the big prizes some of the kids won, “At the end of our program we told the children who read all the 25 books would receive prizes. Well, one of them received our space shuttle that was made out of cardboard which the kids were just fascinated by this, so we had a boy win that. And then we actually had a girl that won the astronaut’s helmet, and then we had a poster of the planets which another girl won that, so it was all very successful.”

The kids Finnegan mentioned were Wyatt and Cassey Bubeck, and Rineil Payne. Besides a weekly morning event held for kids in preschool through second grade in June, Guthrie County Extension also held programs for those in third through fifth grade throughout June and July at the library. While there are no more events scheduled for kids the rest of the summer, Finnegan reminds them they can still turn in their reading logs to receive their prizes.
