A supply of large rocks was recently delivered to the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center build site, though they aren’t for the facility itself. Instead, McAninch Corporation provided them to be used for the “Ride the Thin Blue Line” project.

Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard is spearheading the officers memorial, which he reminds people will be located on the Raccoon River Valley Trail adjacent to the center. He says interest in the project has grown, and there’s now a board dedicated to its planning and design. Leonard says he’s received lots of input from law enforcement officials on how to best honor Iowa’s fallen officers, and he promises that the outcome will be a truly unique experience. “We’re getting everybody’s ideas, and we’re going to come up with something that is Iowa; it represents Iowa as a whole. It’s not going to be your normal monuments or tributes or anything like that, it’s going to be something different. The idea would be that you’ll come out here and you’ll say, ‘Wow, that’s pretty cool!’ And you’ll go home and get your family and come back, and pay tribute to the officers (whose) names are somehow displayed out here on this piece of property.”

Leonard estimates the project is still a year or two away from being finished. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to continue supporting the project through donations, which can be done by clicking the first link below to visit the official “Ride the Thin Blue Line” website.
