As we enter the dog days of summer, the Perry Parks and Recreation Department encourages people to get ready for their fall athletic camps.

There is a pair of camps coming up in September for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 6th, and sign-up is currently open. The youth flag football camp is divided into two age groups, one for kindergarten-3rd graders, and the other for 4th-6th. Participants will learn the fundamental skills of football, with the camps running from September 17th through October 24th. Games for K-3 will be Thursdays, and 4-6 will be Tuesdays, all of which will start at 5:30 p.m. at Wiese Park. The cost to join is $20 for McCreary Center members and $35 for non-members. The deadline to sign up is August 30th for the older league and September 6th for the younger.

To go along with the youth football league, Perry Parks and Rec is also offering their youth cheerleading camp. Participants will learn cheers and stunts from the current Perry High School Cheer Squad, and will cheer on the players in the flag football leagues. The deadline to sign up is September 3rd, and the price is $15 for members and $30 for non-members. For both programs, sign-up can be done either at the McCreary Center or using the new online registration website. Assistant Parks and Rec Director Becky Halling also points out that there is no gender requirements for the camps, so girls can sign up for football and boys can join cheerleading if they desire.
