A Perry man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Tuesday, following an investigation that linked his DNA with a crime scene.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Charles Andrew Onnen was taken into custody by the Perry Police Department, which was the result of a more than three-week investigation into an attempted burglary. The suspect allegedly tried to break into a house located in the 800 block of 1st Avenue on July 7th, which was reported by a juvenile resident of the home. He reportedly opened water bottles on the porch, but nothing else was apparently disturbed during the incident. Officers were able to gather DNA from the bottles, which were sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation laboratory. The sample was linked to Onnen, whose DNA was on file from a previous conviction.
A warrant was issued on July 17th, and on July 30th Onnen was located and placed under arrest. He is being charged with a class D felony for attempted second degree burglary. He is currently being held in Dallas County Jail on $5,000 cash only bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
