Two Jefferson natives are coming back for a special concert this Sunday.
Ashley Sievers and Shelby Sievers-VanNordstrand will perform at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens on Sunday at 2pm. Both sisters are professional vocalists. Ashley is a mezzo soprano and is the chair of the Vocal Arts Department at St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. Shelby is a soprano and is an Associate Professor of Voice and Vocal Area Coordinator for the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board member Becky Griener says the two were very accomplished vocalists and musicians in high school.
“Shelby was a four-year all-stater on clarinet. She ended up first chair in the orchestra and first chair in the band. Ashley was an all-state vocalist also, and she was a great oboe player, great pianist. Both girls (are) very talented.”
There’s no pre-registration for the free event. Refreshments will be served and Griener encourages attendees to bring their own lawn chairs. To hear more from Griener about the concert as well as other Gardens related activities, listen to tomorrow’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
