We have new information regarding the investigation of a weekend incident involving River Farms Recreation.
The Greene County Sheriff’s office has concluded its investigation into the June 22nd event. The report is under review with the Greene County Attorney’s office. We’ve previously reported that County Attorney Thomas Laehn said he would make his final decision regarding further charges after the investigation was complete. During the evening of June 22nd, the Sheriff’s office was notified of several individuals who allegedly were drinking under age. We’ve previously reported that River Farms Owner Craig Flack said it was an 18 and over event. He added there wasn’t an alcohol vendor on site and the event was publicized as BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage). Flack said he had security at the admission gate checking identification and had turned people away who weren’t at least 18-years-old.
The Sheriff’s office and Jefferson Police Department made several arrests, including three OWIs and they responded to one traffic-related fatality.
Last Monday, Flack was at the County Board of Supervisors meeting in response to being served a cease and desist notice about a zoning classification for the property. The River Farms property is zoned as agriculture and the notice Flack received noted that many of his business activities called for commercial zoning. Flack said he has an event coming up on August 3rd and asked about a temporary variance. County Zoning Director Chuck Wenthold tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was decided to allow the one-day variance so that Flack can have the event, and then the process to consider changing the zoning of the property will take place following the event.
Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
