Greene County High School baseball players Austin Delp and Nick Breon were named to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association Class 3A Southwest District second team. Head Coach John Hupp informed Raccoon Valley Radio of the selections. Both were earlier named to Heart of Iowa Activities Conference All-Conference teams- Delp to the first team and Breon to the second.
Delp was named to the All-District team as a pitcher. The senior right-hander had a 5-4 record for the 10-23 Rams. He threw 58-1/3 innings with an earned run average of 1.92. Delp struck out 85 batters, walked 19, hit four with pitches, and held opponents to a .198 batting average. At the plate, he hit .395 with a .462 on-base percentage. He struck out just seven times in 81 at-bats and scored 21 runs, or 17.3 percent of the total runs the Rams scored. He also went seven for seven stealing bases. Versatile on defense, he played all nine positions at least once.
Breon was named as a shortstop. He batted. 392 with 11 doubles, two triples, the only home run hit by any Greene County player, and he drove in 18 runs while scoring 19 times. He was eight for eight stealing bases and fanned only nine times in 79 at-bats. At short, the junior turned in some eye-popping plays. Coach Hupp likened Breon’s defensive wizardry akin to what we watch from the pros on TV.
