On Saturday, August 24th, representatives of Heart of Iowa and Dallas County Habitat for Humanity invite bike riders of all skill levels for the second ever HabiTour event.
The bike ride fundraiser was held for the first time two years ago in Greene and Boone counties, and this year the organizers decided to branch out and also include Dallas. The ride will start and finish at Hotel Pattee in Perry, wrapping up with a free concert and meal. Habitat steering committee member Drew Miller says there are three different length options for participants, which will set off in intervals. “We will be having different start times as well. So if you’re doing the longer ride you’ll start earlier in the morning, if you’re doing the 50-mile you’ll start a little bit later, and then the 25 a little bit after that. Our goal is to have everybody finish at the same time, so that way we can have a big get-together there at the hotel afterwards.”
The registration charge for HabiTour is $10, and then each rider is asked to raise a minimum of $100 from other sources. Entry fees will include the ride itself, the after-ride meal, and a medal. All the funds raised will benefit both Habitat organizations. Registration can be done online, though there is also a paper registration option available.
