A Greene County organization is looking for volunteers for an upcoming survey assessment.
The Greene County Homeless Coalition will be conducting a homeless survey from July 31st-August 1st. Volunteers will be visiting area campgrounds, parks and other locations where homeless could be located. The goal of the survey results will be sent electronically to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It allows for an accurate depiction of homeless concerns and HUD can allocate funds to specific areas of need. Homeless individuals can also be connected to area agencies that can offer assistance.
Volunteers will go through a brief training session before the assessment. They will be offering food and personal hygiene items to homeless individuals encountered. Volunteers are needed from 5-7pm on Wednesday, July 31st and from 7-9am Thursday, August 1st at the Churdan Methodist Church, St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction, the Central Christian Church in Jefferson and the Scranton Community Center.
Greene County Public Health Social Worker Sara Miller and Greene County Disabilities Coordinator with Central Iowa Community Services Ellen Ritter are the co-chairs of the coalition. Those interested in being volunteers, can contact Miller at 386-3228.
