The Adel Public Library’s summer reading program wraps up for the year this coming week, but that doesn’t mean the special events will stop.

There are several upcoming activities at the library at the end of July and beginning of August. The first program will be on Wednesday, July 31st, and will celebrate everyone’s favorite fictional wizard. The library will host their annual Harry Potter Birthday Party and Trivia Contest at 10:30 a.m., and Hogwarts enthusiasts of all ages are invited to take part in the free celebration. The next day, August 1st, kids in the Adel area are invited to the “Touch a Truck” event, featuring a wide variety of vehicles. Between 9-11 a.m., the library parking lot will be filled with trucks, tractors, fire engines, squad cars, and school buses that attendees can explore and learn about. The vehicles will be provided by the City of Adel, the Adel Fire and Police Departments, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Schools, Ankeny Sanitation, and the Pelzer family. There will also be miniature vehicles for kids to ride and play with.

Finally, on Friday, August 2nd, the activities will shift to Evans Park as the library hosts a Teddy Bear Picnic. Attendees can enjoy a story, song, and snack with their favorite stuffed buddy, and also bring their families for a picnic lunch and playtime at the park after the program. The event will start at 10:30 a.m., and in case of inclement weather it will be moved to the community room in the library. Each of the programs is free to attend, and only the Teddy Bear Picnic requires registration.
