A thunderstorm caused some damage and power outages in Greene and Dallas counties Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern Greene County at 4:14pm. A second warning was then issued for northeastern Dallas County at 4:28pm. Both severe weather events had strong winds of over 58-miles-per-hour and heavy rainfall. The first warning expired at 5pm and the second one was over at 5:15.

Damage was reported in the City of Jefferson as Public Works Director Dave Morlan said a tree had fallen over and was laying on power lines at Monroe and Walnut streets. He added that there were other tree limbs down throughout town. Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard told Raccoon Valley Radio a tree had fallen over at 130th Street and L Place. He said there were other reports of minor damage in the warned area and there was a power line down in the City of Granger. The severe weather also caused power outages in Jefferson. Alliant Energy reported about 945 people were without power at 4:16pm and Midland Power Cooperative had 22 customers without power. Alliant Energy Spokesperson Justin Foss confirmed that the power outage was weather related and that power has been restored.

Three Raccoon Valley Radio staff and weatherology were involved in the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team coverage. The one to count on for severe weather coverage is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
