A few weeks ago the voters in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District approved the $15.75 million bond referendum for a new elementary building, and the planning phase has been progressing since.

School Board President TIm Canney says one of the first pieces of business following the bond’s approval was approving an addendum to the District’s contract with FRK Architects and Engineers. Canney says the school has utilized the firm’s services many times in the past and has a base contract with them, and now FRK is officially linked to the building project. He adds, the District has already made several decisions, including the location of the new school, on 15th Street in Adel northwest of the aquatic center.

Canney says there’s a lot of excitement felt throughout ADM regarding the new elementary, and the Board and administration are hopeful people will see walls going up as early as next spring. “The timeline on that is we’re going to start designing this fall, and we really will have that wrapped up by Thanksgiving time. The idea is to get the thing out to bid between Thanksgiving and Christmas to get our best bids, the lowest rates. And that’s the plan, and so we’ll start digging in the spring as soon as the land will allow us to.”
