Heart of Iowa Activities Conference rivals Greene County and Gilbert square off in Gilbert tonight in Class 3A District 4 baseball opening round play. The Tigers beat the Rams last month in Gilbert in a conference doubleheader by scores of 8-1 and 2-1 in their only previous meetings this season. The Rams enter the contest with a 9-22 mark while the Tigers are 24-6.

John Hupp is the head coach of the Rams. He told Raccoon Valley Radio senior Austin Delp is scheduled to start tonight’s game. “Austin pitched the 2-1 game against Gilbert and threw the ball very well. We had chances in that game, but weren’t able to get the big two out hit, which has been a problem at times this season.

Tonight’s game is the second of a twin bill with Algona and Boone playing in Gilbert at 5 p.m., followed by the Rams and Tigers. Air time is approximately 6:30 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The losing teams have their seasons come to an end, while the winning teams meet in Gilbert Monday night for the District 4 title.
