Dallas County Conservation invites people of all ages to attend their second annual Pioneer Day celebration, where they can learn more about life in the time of the settlers.

The event will be held Wednesday, July 24th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Forest Park Museum and Arboretum, and will include an assortment of family-friendly activities. The program will be led by Forest Park Curator Pete Malmberg and Naturalist Cindy Blobaum, who will guide attendees through the Mormon Pioneer Day tradition. Conservation Outreach Coordinator Ken Keffer describes the festivities. “So this is kind of a family-friendly event, (with) lots of hands-on activity stations that you kind of work through at your own (pace). Pete (Malmberg) will be there with some activities, Cindy (Blobaum) will be there as well, directing traffic. We’ll get the covered wagon kits out, it’s kind of a neat chance to go down the trail and explore, and imagine what it’s like to hike across the country, you know, to kind of settle in the Mormon Valley in Utah.”

The program is free to attend, and pre-registration is recommended. Keffer adds that Pioneer Day will take place in rain or shine, though some specific activities are weather dependent.
