While their 5-23 record may not sound like much, the 2019 season was an improvement for the ACGC baseball team after winning just four games last year.

Most of those wins came in the closing weeks of the season as they went 4-2 over their last six regular season games before falling to Panorama in the first round of districts.

The Chargers’ five seniors were a key part of that finish. Avery Wheatley and Ben Kingery anchored the middle of the lineup all season with Noah Nelsen playing solid defense most of the way. Will Byars and Mike Ure, meanwhile, were the top two on the team in innings pitched.

While the contributions of those five may not be easily replaced, there’s reason for optimism next year. ACGC was one of the youngest teams in the area with seven freshmen and sophomores receiving significant playing time. They’ll look for those players to continue growing and improving.
