Dallas County Conservation is partnering with ISU Extension and Outreach to offer another pair of workshops focused on cooking and eating healthy.

Forest Park Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says the classes should be well worth people’s time, and encourages those of all ages to sign up. “The cooking workshops have been really popular sometimes. We’ve had them for the last several years with ISU Extension, Mary Krisco, the Nutritionist for them does a great job. Some years we’ve had great attendance, some years not so great. She does a really wonderful presentation trying to get people to eat a lot more healthy and for smaller portions.”

Malmberg adds, one focus of the programs will be preparing meals for your loved ones who can’t cook for themselves, such as elderly family members. The first workshop will be held this Sunday, July 21st, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Forest Park Museum and Arboretum. The topic is “Cooking for One or Two,” and will cover strategies to make the most out of cooking for a small household. The second program will be Sunday, August 11th, also from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Forest Park. The title of the second event is “Cook Now, Enjoy Later,” and Malmberg says it will focus on making meals when you have time during the weekend to reheat during your busy week.

There is a $5 charge for each of the classes, which includes material fees, and can be paid at the door. Registration is required and can be done by stopping in or calling Forest Park at 515-465-3577.
