The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The meeting began with an update from Transfer Station Director Jotham Arber. He presented total revenues and expenses from the previous fiscal year, and proposed some changes he would like to make this year, such as creating an application including a background check for those desiring charge accounts at the station, and changing the pay period on customer charges from 90 days to 60. Arber said if they had a 60 day limit last fiscal year they would have brought in an extra $20,000 in revenue.
Next, the Board discussed courthouse security with Sheriff Marty Arganbright, Jailer Mike Herbert, and Chief Deputy Jeremy Bennett. Board Chair Jack Lloyd said some courthouse staff have expressed concern over safety, and posed whether Herbert should be monitoring the metal detector the County bought in 2016. Arganbright stated that Herbert was not hired in 2013 as courthouse security, and while Herbert has a consistent presence at the courthouse he also gets called out for transports or other deputy duties. Arganbright said they would need to hire another Deputy to ensure the metal detector is manned. Supervisor Mike Dickson suggested that the Board revisit hiring additional personnel at budget time. Arganbright emphasized that while sometimes all deputies are called out of the office, courthouse security is better than it ever was with Herbert on staff.
Finally, the Board met with several companies to hire a finance provider for the jail addition project, and chose Dorsey & Whitney, LLC. as bond counsel.
